All day Nerikomi Workshop

Sign up for an all day workshop (2.5 hours in the morning and 2.5 hours in the afternoon) in my garage in Corvallis, Oregon to learn the basics of the Nerikomi technique.  Nerikomi is a Japanese technique using colored clay to create patterns directly into the clay.

Description

Who should sign up?  Beginner friendly but slightly easier for people who already have some ceramic experience, especially in hand building techniques .

What to bring: Everything is included. You will get 3 pounds of colored clay, one pound each of three different colors.  You will get to choose which combination of colors you want ahead of time from a few possibilities.  I will demonstrate two or three possible patterns to choose from. You will build a Nerikomi pattern with the clay in the morning and make a handbuilt plate, tray or bowl with your pattern in the afternoon.   Your piece will be clear glazed (on not, if you prefer) and fired in my kiln.  Nerikomi pieces needs to dry for a long time, so it might take a month or so before you can get your piece back.   Just be aware that Nerikomi pieces are prone to cracking, so the end result might not be the perfect piece you were hoping for.

Tools will be provided but if you have some you like, I encourage you to bring them.

You will receive more info and directions by email before the class. Maximum of four people in the class.

If only one or two people are signed up, the class might get cancelled with a full refund. If the class is full but you want to join the waiting list, send me an email. If there is enough demand I will schedule another class. Please contact me if you have any questions.
