About Me
Hello, my name is Maguelonne (Mag) Ival. I am a ceramic artist, foreign language teacher, mother of two and French National living in the Pacific North West of the United States.
About My Work
Creating art opens for me other ways of seeing reality, feeds my curiosity and fosters a sense of wonder. I aim to create meaningful beauty through my abstract wall sculptures which address such themes as immigration, the passing of time and women’s rights. I also enjoy creating more traditional functional ceramics by their shape but innovative in their decorative techniques.
The starting point of many of my sculptures is the Mobius strip, which I also use to create functional vases. On top of that, I enjoy exploring and testing ceramic techniques in my functional work. A favorite of mine is Colored Clay and Nerikomi designs, but in the last couple of years I have been exploring the technique of colored slip which I explain more in details here and here.
Where to find my Work
I attend art fairs and exhibit my work in galleries around Oregon, including the Green Heron Gallery in Philomath, Oregon which offers a selection of my art on a permanent basis. Check this page for upcoming markets/fairs and this page for past and upcoming exhibitions.
Terre des What?
“Terre des Oules” means something like “Land of Ceramics” in French but there are several layers to its meaning. If you’re curious to know more, click HERE.
